Wrexham Receive Significant Injury Boost

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has confirmed the injury sustained to defender Aaron Hayden is not as serious as first feared, according to The Leader.

The defender was forced off with a thigh injury during Saturday’s victory against Doncaster Rovers but fortunately, he isn’t expected to be out for “weeks and weeks” like first feared.

How crucial is Aaron Hayden?

Since joining Wrexham in April 2021, the former Wolverhampton Wanderers youngster has enjoyed plenty of success in Wales.

After years of youth football and lower Non-League loans (aside from his spell at Carlisle), Hayden has taken full advantage of his time with Wrexham, scoring 20 goals in 72 matches as a defender and is only one match away from equaling his appearance numbers from his time at Carlisle United.

History hasn’t repeated

Earlier this year, Hayden sustained a calf injury during a fourth-round FA Cup clash against Sheffield United. However, this injury was as serious as first feared and the defender missed the remainder of the football season.

This included watching from the sidelines as Wrexham beat Notts County to a historic National League title triumph and confirmed their place back in the football league.

What’s been said?

Speaking in a recent interview, Parkinson stated…

“It is not serious, nothing like what he had before,”

“We will assess him but it doesn’t look like it is going to be a long-term injury.

“Aaron has come back in really good shape but we are confident as it stands today that it is not going to be weeks and weeks.”

Writer’s View

Hayden has been a crucial part of the new era at Wrexham and another injury blow would have been a tough pill to swallow for the defender, having missed the final few months of the previous campaign.

However, news that his injury isn’t as bad as first feared will be a major boost to both him and the rest of the club, although he isn’t likely to feature for the club in Saturday’s home match against Grimsby Town.
