PREVIEW | TOWN SET TO RETURN TO WREXHAM

We’re back on the road tomorrow for a second consecutive away match, this time making our first return to Wrexham since that afternoon in the National League Play-Offs in May 2022.

That afternoon saw the Mariners pick up a 5-4 victory – a crucial step on our return to the EFL – in what will go down as one of the finest matches in recent Town history.

This weekend will see the teams face off in the EFL for the first time since February 2008 and, while the Mariners come into the match in the midst of a five-game unbeaten run, Wrexham also find themselves in fine form.

Team News

Manager Paul Hurst confirmed that Otis Khan and Donovan Wilson returned to training this week after missing the entire season, but he dismissed the idea that they could play tomorrow afternoon.

Callum Ainley, our newest acquisition, has completed his first full week of training at Cheapside since joining last week and will be hoping to make his debut tomorrow afternoon.

Kieran Green (knee) and Charles Vernam (thigh) are also out with long-term injuries.

Wrexham

Tomorrow’s hosts returned to the EFL this season after clinching the National League title last term with Notts County pushing them all the way.

Key to their success last season was striker Paul Mullin who, after suffering a collapsed lung and four broken ribs against Manchester United during their pre-season tour of the USA, made his return to action from the bench in Wrexham’s 2-1 victory over Doncaster Rovers last weekend.

In his absence, Elliott Lee has stepped into the goalscoring breach and has six to his name this term already, including a late winner last weekend. That result finds Wrexham in seventh place and, after an opening day defeat against MK Dons, the Red Dragons have put together a six-match unbeaten run with three wins and three defeats.

This summer saw the Welsh club sign centre-back Will Boyle from Huddersfield Town – his boyhood club who he made sixteen Championship appearances for last season – for an undisclosed fee as well as the free transfer acquisitions of Liam Hall and George Evans.

Former Premier League players James McLean and Steven Fletcher have also joined with the latter making his debut last weekend.

David Rock will be the man in the middle for the match at the STōK Racecourse tomorrow afternoon and will be assisted by Lewis Raper and Matthew Sowerby.
