‘Won’t stand in his way’ – Journalist reports Spurs man is ‘a bit torn’ over his future

Hugo Lloris is ‘a bit split’ about his future, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, after turning down multiple offers to be the number two at several clubs.

After the European transfer market closed a little more than a week ago, Lloris acknowledged that he had turned down a deadline-day move to his boyhood club, Nice, because the offer came too late in the window (Nice Matin).

According to the Evening Standard, Spurs’ decision-makers were perplexed when the Frenchman turned down offers from Nice, Newcastle United, Lazio, and many Saudi clubs despite expressing his desire to go.

Spurs were happy for their former captain to stay and lend his experience to the new number one earlier in the summer, according to The Athletic, but the 36-year-old made it clear that he did not want to be an understudy at the North London club or anywhere else.

Jacobs has now revealed that Spurs are by no means pushing Lloris out of the door and are happy for him to remain at the club until January if he decides to do so.

Hugo Lloris is not sure of his next move beyond Spurs

“If Lloris wants to stay at Spurs and not play until January, Tottenham will not stand in his way,” the journalist told GiveMeSport. So, Tottenham is not pressuring Lloris to leave the club.

“It’s Tottenham who is waiting, being patient, and figuring out where he truly wants to go.” There has been some interest in Saudi Arabia, but Lloris has not taken the bait. Newcastle were interested in Lloris, but they would not have been able to offer him any game time.

“I think Lloris has been torn because he’s beginning to realize, after being ever-present and integral to the Spurs project, that wherever he goes next may not come with game time.”

“Tottenham will also not provide game time, and if he wants minutes, he may have to drop down a level or move to a location that isn’t one of his top priorities.” That, I believe, is why things have been so difficult.”

Spurs Online Opinion

If Lloris had known earlier in the summer that he would not receive many strong offers, I believe he would have been content to stay at Tottenham as an understudy for another season and then go for free the following summer.

The 36-year-old may have expected a few serious proposals from France, but they did not appear to materialize until late in the window.
