Wolves in 16-club chase for ‘exceptional’ £8m South American youngster

Wolves have been scouting Argentine prodigy Valentin Barco in recent weeks, according to reports.

The transfer window is now officially closed. However, there has been rumors of new players joining the team.

Wolves signed six new players during the summer transfer window despite losing a number of high-profile players.

At Molineux, Tom King, Matt Doherty, Enso Gonzalez, Santiago Bueno, Tommy Doyle, and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde are all eager to make an impression.

Doyle and Bellegarde are the only new faces to make their debuts so far, with the latter standing out in Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Liverpool.

Wolves appear to be already considering how to bolster their team, with adolescent Barco reportedly on the club’s radar…

Wolves have been watching Boca Juniors starlet Valentin Barco

90min reported yesterday that Wolves are one of several clubs that have been watching Barco, 19, in recent weeks.

Boca Juniors is seeking to sign him to a new contract.

However, due to the high level of attention in the player and hence the possibility of his head being turned, this may be problematic.

He currently has an £8 million release clause. Boca is attempting to reach a new agreement with Barco in order to get that deleted.

90min can name up to 15 clubs that are now paying attention to Barco. Wolves, Brighton, Newcastle United, Brentford, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Nottingham Forest are all reportedly interested.

According to them, Brighton are presently in pole position to sign the left-back.

Brighton, of course, have had a lot of success recently in plundering the South American market and generally scooping up young talent.

According to The Guardian, Barco is a strong attacking left-back who also takes good free kicks.

Wolves up against it to land Barco

So Wolves are apparently looking at Barco.

It feels pretty unlikely that he will make a move to Molineux.

While Wolves have made a conscious effort to dip into the South American market in recent times with the additions of Joao Gomes and Enso Gonzalez, Barco is seemingly very highly coveted.

If 15 other teams are interested in him, Wolves’ prospects of landing this ‘extraordinary’ potential are minimal.

In Rayan Ait-Nouri and Hugo Bueno, Wolves have two bright young players battling for minutes at left back.

It would be surprising for the club to try to sign a third young left-back; certainly someone with more experience is needed.
