Brendan Rodgers has confirmed whether or not the attacker will play in the Old Firm game.

HIGHLIGHTS

. Oh Hyeon-gyu is expected to return from injury sooner than expected, giving Celtic another offensive option.

. Despite missing the first few games of the season, Oh made an impression last season, scoring four goals in five games.

. Though he is unlikely to start in the Old Firm encounter on Sunday, Oh’s form suggests he may make an impact as a substitute.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has provided Celtic with an update on when Oh Hyeon-gyu is expected to recover from his latest injury setback.

When will Oh Hyeon-gyu return from injury?

Oh has yet to play for Celtic in any tournament this season due to a calf injury incurred in pre-season, with Rodgers announcing he will miss up to six weeks of football after initially playing through the injury:

“Oh will most likely be out for a few weeks; he injured his calf against Athletic Bilbao but trained anyway.” Nobody knew, and he kept training.

“He played in the game on Saturday and then trained on Sunday.” Following that, he informed the medical staff that he had felt his calf and that he had a calf condition that could keep him out for four to six weeks.”

Despite initial concerns that the attacker would miss a significant length of time, there has been a positive recent update, with the Hoops coach announcing he would be available for selection against Rangers tomorrow.

Rodgers told The Glasgow Times: “Oh is back in training, so he will be available.” The players who were absent for a lengthier period of time will return following the international break.”

“I’m just excited by the games,” the 50-year-old added, speaking more broadly about how he is feeling at this early stage of the season. The players worked really hard last year to win the championship and earn the right to compete.

“We’ll play the teams we do, and there are some very good teams with fantastic managers, and we’ll accept the challenge when the games come,” said the coach.

“I am not here to jeopardize the team’s strategy or to bind the team and myself to anything that will fail or not work.”

“It’s just a matter of time.” I don’t want to go on about injuries, but there are several that could affect how the system works.

Oh Hyeon-gyu, how good is he?

Last season, after joining from Suwon Samsung Bluewings, the South Korean made a decent impression, scoring four goals in five games after the Scottish Premiership’s top-six break, indicating he was still finding his form in a Celtic shirt.

As a result, it is disappointing that the 22-year-old was hurt when he was, but it is encouraging that he is now likely to return from injury ahead of schedule, especially with such a vital match this weekend.

Kyogo Furuhashi has had a strong start to the season, netting two goals in his first three league games, but the Hoops were held to a 0-0 draw at home against St Johnstone last time out, so Rodgers will welcome the return of another attacking option.

Oh is unlikely to start tomorrow’s game against Rangers, but his form at the conclusion of last season suggests he could make an impact if brought on as a substitute.
