West Ham United want to offer Jesse Lingard ‘heavily incentivised’ short-term contract as transfer news emerge

West Ham United want to offer Jesse Lingard a “heavily incentivised” short-term contract should they make the decision to sign him, according to 90Min

According to the web site (14 September), the Warrington-born forward has already had bids from Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the MLS, as well as Everton and Burnley, but Lingard wants West Ham.

The 30-year-old has been working with the Hammers for several weeks to maintain his fitness levels, and it is believed that his agreement to train with the club is in preparation for the club to grant him a short-term deal.

Lingard could still be tempted abroad should West Ham choose not to sign him, however, with 90Min sources sharing that more lucrative offers are on the table.

Careful decision

After their failure to sign much-needed alternative attacking options in the summer transfer window, it certainly makes sense for West Ham United to be lining up a move for Lingard on a free given his past success on the East London shores.

And a heavily incentivised deal makes a lot of sense as it will motivate Lingard to up his game but also hand the Hammers the much-needed attacking bonus they need in a player who is driven to succeed.

The England international certainly endured a tough spell in the Midlands, failing to prove why Nottingham Forest paid him the big wages to make him one of their marquee 2022 summer acquisitions.

A hungry Lingard has proven to be one of the most exciting and effective players in the Premier League in the past, as shown in his last campaign in East London where he managed 14 goal contributions in only 16 league appearances at the London Stadium during the 2020/21 campaign.

Whether Lingard can match those levels again remains to be seen, but Lingard is a player now well in the prime years of his career and will be looking to give his all at any one of the clubs he may end up in the coming weeks.

The England international has been training heavily with West Ham United for a while now which may suggest that Moyes is still carefully deciding whether to sign him, and should Lingard match those past heights again, it would certainly prove a superb deal for all parties involved.

Surely, the Hammers can afford to take the risk.
