Garth Crooks tells West Ham United what they should do amid David Moyes sack calls

After West Ham’s 6-0 loss to Arsenal at the London Stadium, Garth Crooks has advised the club to increase its financial support for David Moyes rather than fire him.

The BBC expert acknowledged that the severity of the loss will cause supporters to start discussing Moyes’ future, but in spite of the outcome, he recommended they support the manager rather than fire him.

Crooks’ demands for further funding sound outlandish considering West Ham’s summer transfer expenditures, but the London Stadium has been noticeably devoid of a natural striker in recent weeks.

“I don’t think I’ve seen a West Ham side capitulate quite so badly,” Crooks said in his BBC Sport Team of the Week piece.

“A 6-0 home loss of this kind will rekindle the debate among their supporters about David Moyes’ suitability to lead the Hammers to success. I believe it could be wiser to make a small investment in the team.

A new striker must be signed by West Ham.
The fact that West Ham needs a new striker is no secret. They required one in January, one in the summer, and one at this very moment. Moyes feels let down by the club to that extent.

In the end, January’s rumours involving players like Armando Broja, Santiago Gimenez, and Victor Boniface were unfounded, leaving Moyes’ squad with only two acknowledged strikers, Danny Ings and Michael Antonio.

The absence of a focal point has therefore undermined their attacking play, especially during an injury crisis involving other attacking players, but it is insufficient justification for the subpar attacking performance the Hammers have produced in recent weeks.

Not only have the outcomes prompted calls for Moyes’ dismissal, but so has the style of game being played, which lacks attacking purpose and bores spectators in the stands even though it may produce the desired results.

Rio Ferdinand has commented on the Moyes controversy, which is unrelated to West Ham.
