West Brom want to sign Leeds United defender Cody Drameh on loan before transfer deadline

West Brom are trying to sign Leeds United full-back Cody Drameh on loan for the rest of the season, according to The Athletic.

Writing on their live transfer blog (31 August, 11:49), journalist Phil Hay reports that the Baggies and Birmingham City are among the most interested parties in the England Under-21 defender.

He is allowed to leave Elland Road after their signing of Djed Spence, with a loan deal taking him through to the end of his contract at Leeds.

“Leeds United full-back Cody Drameh is attracting strong interest from the rest of the Championship,” they wrote.

“Birmingham City are pushing for a season-long loan, with West Brom another side who have enquired about the 21-year-old’s availability.

“Any loan deal would take Drameh to the end of his contract at Leeds, which expires next June.”

Yes!

There’s no doubting that we are a squad that has been severely weakened in this window rather than strengthened, and Drameh would be a fantastic addition.

He has spent parts of the last two seasons on loan in the Championship and been one of the best performers in his position both times, even winning the player of the year award at Cardiff despite only signing for them in January.

Leeds have decided to move forward without him, and a loan deal would no doubt be ideal for West Brom to get a deal done as we struggle for cash.

He would come in and likely displace Darnell Furlong on the right, but he’s also capable of playing on the left if needed and would add fantastic depth and quality to the squad.

Carlos Corberan will know him well from their time together at Leeds and if we can get this deal over the line before the deadline it could be our best bit of business of the summer.
