Matt Hobbs has outlined which Wolves player he’s excited to see back at the club next season.
There’s a long list of Wolves players who are currently spending their time out on loan and it always begs the question as to whether they’ll feature in Gary O’Neil’s plans on their return.
In the January transfer alone, the Wanderers sent eight players out on loan.
Two strikers, Sasa Kalajdzic and Fabio Silva were shipped out to Eintracht Frankfurt and Rangers respectively while the likes of Luke Cundle, Joe Hodge and Chem Campbell were sent to various clubs across the EFL.
A spell out on loan can be the catalyst for a player to increase their stock and value to be sold on, or perhaps become a regular in the first-team.
At this stage, it’s difficult to know which players will depart Molineux at the end of the season, though it is suspected that Goncalo Guedes, currently on loan at Villarreal, and Silva could have played their final games for the club.
One player that Matt Hobbs is excited to see return is defender Yerson Mosquera.
Matt Hobbs is ‘excited’ to watch Yerson Mosquera
Upon reacting to the news that defender Toti Gomes had signed a new long-term contract a Molineux, Hobbs revealed that he sees Mosquera playing a part for O’Neil next season, alongside the likes of Max Kilman, Craig Dawson, Santiago Bueno and Toti.
Speaking to the Wolves official website, he said: “It really suits him [the system]. It helps playing next to Craig and Max, but also Santi has done well, so as a four they’re really strong and are pushing each other.
“Santi came in and did well, so the three playing now know they have to keep playing well to keep their spot, then we’re excited to have Yerson back in the summer.”
Mosquera is highly rated by those at the club and the 22-year-old is currently on loan at Villarreal after spending the majority of 2023 at MLS side Cincinnati.
Mosquera is an exciting prospect
The towering Colombian impressed out on loan at Cincinnati and was one of the highest-performing centre-backs in the league, according to Hobbs, and has now earned his move to Villarreal.
This is where he can test himself in a strong league before heading back to Wolves and attempting to break into O’Neil’s plans.
Although there is strong competition for a spot in the back three, a successful spell in Spain can see him mount a challenge next term.
Of course, with Dawson approaching 34 years of age, his chances of featuring in the future are increased and that is music to the ears of a player who has impressed his manager.
Mosquera is highly thought of at the club and was hailed as ‘outstanding’ for the development he’s made, which is why Hobbs can’t wait to see donning the Gold shirt next term.
