Nico Schulz, who had been training with Sheffield Wednesday after being without a team, will not be joining Danny Rohl’s squad, as confirmed by the manager himself. Despite several weeks of training with the team, the Championship side has decided against signing the former Borussia Dortmund player.

The decision not to proceed with Schulz’s signing stems from an ongoing investigation into allegations of gender-based violence against him. Released by Borussia Dortmund months ago after a season of inactivity due to accusations from his former partner, Schulz sought to revive his career with a move to English football.

However, his legal troubles resurfaced in February, with Schulz facing three allegations of assault dating back to 2020. In a court ruling, he was ordered to donate 150,000 euros to charity after his ex-partner declined to testify.

In response to this controversy, the Sheffield Wednesday women’s supporters’ group penned an open letter urging manager Danny Rohl to refrain from signing Schulz. Rohl, a German coach, confirmed after a match against Plymouth that the club would not pursue the player’s signing, citing a comprehensive evaluation of the situation.

With this decision, Schulz’s quest for a career revival must continue elsewhere. Once a prominent figure with Hertha Berlin, Hoffenheim, and Borussia Dortmund, he now seeks another opportunity to reignite his career after being sidelined in 2020 by off-field issues.
