Virginia Tech football: One analyst has the Hokies in his way-too-early 2024 top-25
Since the Virginia Tech Hokies defeated the Tulane Green Wave in the Military Bowl last month, expectations have continued to rise for the 2024 season. Ahead of the bowl game, several key Hokies announced they were either bypassing an opportunity to enter the NFL draft while others avoided the temptations of the transfer portal for another season in Blacksburg.
Kyron Drones, Bhayshul Tuten, Quan Felton, Jaylin Lane, Mansoor Delane, Dorian Strong and others have publicly declared they were returning. Also, Tech added three defensive tackles from the portal, including All-ACC performer Aeneas Peebles. The Hokies should return most of their starters on both sides of the ball and have solid replacements lined up for the players they’ve lost.
So, what should our expectations be for 2024?
Well, the feelings going around Blacksburg and the football program haven’t felt like this in what feels like a long time. Fans are excited. Students are excited. The community is fired up.
There is only one game remaining in the 2024 season — the national championship game between Michigan and Washington. After that game, we start looking ahead to spring practice. Blacksburg should be fun this April.
We know how Virginia Tech fans feel about the potential of the 2024 team. But what do those on the outside think?
Bud Elliott is a national college football writer for CBS Sports/247 Sports, and he recently revealed his super early top 25 for 2024. Georgia, no surprise, came in at No. 1.
But Elliott likes the Hokies, too. Elliott has the Hokies at No. 21 — one spot ahead of fellow ACC foe, Florida State.
Some would argue the Hokies should be higher. Honestly, not really. Like he said, it’s super early. There’s a long time to go until September. Tech’s roster will change more as players leave in the spring, and the Hokies will likely add another player or two from the portal.
The college football previews start coming out in May and June. It will be interesting to see the national perspective on the Hokies align with Elliott here, but all signs point to a fun 2024 season for Virginia Tech.
