Update around £30k-a-week Everton target suggests battle may be over to sign him

Everton were linked with a number of players during the summer transfer window, and one of those they did not sign is now reportedly in contract talks with his current club. It was no surprise to see Everton so active in the transfer market after surviving relegation on the final day of the Premier League season for the previous two years.

One of the players they were apparently interested in was Fulham’s Harrison Reed, but the club did not want him to leave.

According to The Evening Standard, Reed is now in talks to negotiate a new contract with his current team. According to the article, Reed might be willing to stay if offered a better deal. He is currently earning £30,000 every week.

Everton dealt blow as Reed in talks to sign new Fulham contract

Everton needed to strengthen in some areas during the summer transfer window, and they did so in some.

Despite this, they still appear to be a relegation fight team this season, with only a point against Sheffield United to show for it.

Reed would have been an excellent signing for Everton, adding much-needed strength to the midfield.

Arguably, the Toffees have a strong midfield with the likes of Abdoulaye Doucoure, Amadou Onana and James Garner, but depth is always key in the division.

Fulham’s desire to keep the midfielder and even offer him a larger deal demonstrates their belief in his abilities.

If Reed agrees to a new contract, Everton will undoubtedly need to make new additions when the January transfer window opens.
