Tottenham Hotspur v Crystal Palace - Premier LeagueManchester City are in the market for a new winger, with just over a week remaining in the transfer window.

City lost Riyad Mahrez earlier in the window, with the Algerian completing a move to Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli.

Mahrez could end up being a really big miss for City, given his proven quality in the final third.

It has been suggested that there could be movement on that particular deal later in the week.

But one player City definitely will not be signing in the coming days is Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise.

Olise was linked with City a few weeks ago, and it was suggested he had a £35 million release clause.

But last week, Olise shocked the footballing community by officially signing a new deal with Palace.

And now, a report has shed some light on why he’s made the decision he has…

Michael Olise thinks he can reach the very top by staying at Palace now, after Man City showed interest

The Athletic have a very interesting report about Olise today.

The bulk of the article is about the interest from Chelsea, who believed they could sign Olise by triggered his release clause.

But Olise – whom Patrick Vieira thinks has ‘an unbelievable work ethic’ – apparently had to be the one to inform Palace of Chelsea’s intent to trigger the clause.

The winger never did that, and Chelsea got no response from Palace.

It is stated that City had interest in the player. But no formal bid was made by the Treble winners.

Olise has chosen to stay at Palace because he feels it gives him the best chance of eventually reaching the very top. That’s both domestically and internationally.

Olise’s new deal at Selhurst Park sees him now take home £80,000-a-week.

Fair play to Olise, but hopefully Man City now land Doku

It is interesting to read this report about the factors behind Olise signing a new contract at Palace.

He really did feel like an ideal replacement for Mahrez. Obviously, he is still quite raw.

But stylistically, the 21-year-old could have been a fine signing after the Algerian.

Clearly, he feels as though staying at Palace gives him the best chance of going to the very top eventually and you have to respect that.

He is probably, going to play every single game for Palace which will be crucial for his development.

City are now looking at other players, and hopefully Doku is someone that will be coming in in the coming days.
