In a recent interview with RTE Radio 1, U2 bassist Adam Clayton provided an update on the band’s upcoming projects and shared insights into his personal journey.

 

Clayton confirmed that U2 is working on a new album, described as “science fiction Irish folk music,” in collaboration with longtime producer Brian Eno. While the album is still in progress, Clayton expressed hope that more information would be available by the end of the year. He also provided a positive health update on drummer Larry Mullen Jr., who had been recovering from surgery and longstanding back and neck injuries. Mullen has now returned to drumming and is reportedly doing better than ever, with Clayton describing him as “better than ever” and “The Bionic Man” .

 

Looking ahead, U2 will mark its 50th anniversary next year. While they don’t plan a major celebration, they acknowledge the milestone and may commemorate it personally even if it does not align with new releases or a tour .

 

Clayton also opened up about his past struggles with mental health and alcohol. He admitted to using alcohol to cope with feelings of melancholy and depression, a habit he eventually overcame through treatment and support. He emphasized the importance of seeking help and facing one’s issues honestly .

 

As U2 continues to evolve, Clayton’s reflections on their journey offer a glimpse into the band’s resilience and commitment to both their music and personal well-being.
