Two Nottingham Forest players receive international call-ups ahead of crucial qualifier

Nottingham Forest first-team members Neco Williams and Wayne Hennessey have both received call-ups for the Wales national side.

Rob Page’s side have a friendly against Gibraltar, before a crucial clash with Croatia which could determine whether they will appear at Euro 2024 or not.

36-year-old goalkeeper Hennessey will be looking to add to his 104 caps for his country, with Williams looking to add to his tally of 32 caps despite being just 22.

The call-up for Williams may come as a surprise to many Forest fans, as he hasn’t featured in any matchday squad since the Carabao Cup defeat against Burnley at the end of August due to injury

Hennessey and Williams set for crucial qualifier

In a post on their official Twitter

page, the Welsh FA confirmed their squad for the upcoming games with Gibraltar and Croatia.

Wales presently sits fourth in their qualification group, three points behind leaders Croatia and second-placed Turkey, with the top two sides qualifying automatically for the competition next summer.

Wales, on the other hand, could fall further behind in the qualification race when they face second-place Turkey three days before the big game in Cardiff.

Whilst Hennessey is usually deployed as a backup for his country like he is for the Reds, Williams is a utility man who plays all over the pitch for his nation.

The 22-year-old often features at right-back, left-back or even in midfield for Rob Page’s side.

However, it remains to be seen how severe his recent injury is which could play a part as to how much game time he can get to help his nation qualify for another major tournament.
