Tottenham Hotspur want Brennan Johnson and could offer Nottingham Forest the pick of three players as part of the deal.

Nottingham Forest may now be offered a part-exchange deal as Tottenham Hotspur chase the signing of forward Brennan Johnson

That is according to The Telegraph, who claim that Tottenham are now weighing up a move to sign Johnson.

It’s stated that Tottenham are plotting a part-exchange deal in an attempt to bring down Forest’s asking price for Johnson, who has hailed as ‘very rapid’ by Wales boss Rob Page.

The Daily Mail suggested last week that Forest were seeking a fee of around £50million for Johnson.

Tottenham seemingly don’t fancy paying that fee and are now thinking about offering three players up to Forest.

Defender Joe Rodon, right back Djed Spence and winger Bryan Gil are thought to be the fringe names Tottenham would offer for Johnson.

It’s unclear whether Forest would be open to a part-exchange deal given the kind of money they would need to replace Johnson.

Forest have signed Anthony Elanga this summer but would certainly need to invest in a new attacker if Johnson goes, which is rarely cheap.

Tottenham may be trying to tempt Steve Cooper into a deal here by offering two of his former players.

Spence spent the 2021-22 season on loan at Forest and dazzled as he helped the club win promotion to the Premier League.

Forest had an interest in signing Spence permanently but he ended up joining Tottenham instead.

The move hasn’t really worked and the London Evening Standard reported on Monday that Spence is transfer-listed at Tottenham.

Spence needs a fresh start but going back to Forest seems unlikely with Serge Aurier, Ola Aina and Neco Williams all able to play at right back or right wing back.

Then there is Joe Rodon, who played under Cooper at Swansea City before ending up in the Premier League with Tottenham.

Rodon also spent the second half of last season with Rennes and is also on the transfer list alongside Spence.

Forest may well be in the market for another centre back this summer with Felipe injured.

Rodon certainly has one big fan in Cooper and Forest were interested in signing the Wales international last summer.

Spaniard Gil is another option in an exchange for Johnson after returning from a loan spell at Sevilla.

Forest already have one slight, left-footed playmaker in Gustavo Scarpa though and adding another would be a surprise.

Rodon seems the most likely option to appeal to Forest, but we can’t imagine that he will bring the price down on Johnson too much this summer.
