PSG’s president will not ‘overreact’ following the club’s sluggish start and Champions League defeat at Newcastle.
Paris Saint-Germain have had a sluggish start to the season by their lofty standards, as Luis Enrique’s side were hammered in the Champions League by Newcastle United.

Despite a poor start to the season, Paris Saint-Germain chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi is confidence in the French champions’ new approach. Luis Enrique’s squad is presently third in Ligue One, and they were humiliated in their most recent Champions League game at Newcastle United.

Goals by Miguel Almiron, Dan Burn, Sean Longstaff, and Fabian Schar punished PSG to a 4-1 defeat in the Group F match that quickly became one of the most legendary European nights at St James’ Park. PSG has undergone a huge squad overhaul, with Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Sergio Ramos all going, and Kylian Mbappe’s future once again being heavily debated.

The European heavyweights changed their transfer tactics, bringing in young stars like Randal Kolo Muani and Goncalo Ramos, while also spending big on Lucas Hernandez and Manuel Ugarte. PSG have ‘undergone seismic good change’ over the summer, according to Al-Khelaifi, and the new-look team under Enrique deserves patience.

“When you build new foundations, it takes time – you need purpose, patience, and perseverance,” the PSG chairman told Le Parisien via beIN SPORTS. It’s important not to overreact.

“We’ve already seen flickers of brilliance after only a few weeks of a new – very young – squad and management team, and we know we are going in the right way.”
