The Bee Gees are making headlines with some surprising news about the band today….
On Wednesday night, Maggie Rose received assistance from Phish bassist Mike Gordon during her tour stop at Nectar’s in Burlington, VT, promoting her latest LP, *No One Gets Alive*.
During the energetic performance, Rose reflected to the audience, “It’s really amazing to be out on the street and run into someone who’s played a big role in getting many of us onto the stage and into music. So, let’s hear it for Vermont’s own Mike Gordon.”
At that moment, Gordon made his way onto the stage, which had played a key role in launching Phish’s career four decades ago. He joined Rose and her band for an energetic rendition of the Bee Gees’ “You Should Be Dancing.” Before the next song, a powerful version of The Allman Brothers Band’s “Whipping Post,” Gordon appeared to reminisce about his early days performing at Nectar’s with Phish.
Gordon humorously remarked, “The ironic thing is that I played this song on this stage over 90 years ago,” with the exaggerated statement only partially masking the heartfelt nostalgia behind it. (For context, Phish first played “Whipping Post” at Nectar’s in November 1984, which was 40 years ago.)
The moment had a significant impact on Rose and her band as well. Rose has openly expressed her admiration for Phish in various interviews and even recorded a cover of Phish’s “Shade” in 2020.
Even after Gordon left the stage, the influence of his appearance was evident. During a rendition of the funk vamp “Smooth,” guitarist Kyle Lewis incorporated a riff from Phish’s “Stash” into the groove, and the rest of the band followed along.

In April, the night before *No One Gets Out Alive* was released, Live For Live Music interviewed Maggie Rose in a Manhattan bar during her “ham sandwich moment.” They discussed the journey to the new album, her collaboration with composer and Phish collaborator Don Hart, attending Phish’s “Gamehendge” show at MSG, and more. You can revisit that interview here.
