Texas Longhorns legend Colt McCoy recently weighed in on the ongoing quarterback “rivalry” between Arch Manning and Quinn Ewers, offering valuable advice to both players amid the increased scrutiny.
With Ewers sidelined due to an oblique injury, Manning, the nephew of NFL greats Peyton and Eli Manning, made his highly anticipated first collegiate start in a dominant 51-3 victory over Louisiana-Monroe.
Manning has faced immense pressure since joining the Texas program, and Ewers’ injury has only intensified calls for Manning to take over as the starting quarterback.
McCoy, a former Longhorns quarterback and longtime NFL veteran, spoke about the situation during halftime of Saturday’s game, where he was inducted into the University of Texas Athletics Hall of Honor.
Instead of choosing between the two quarterbacks, McCoy focused on offering advice, acknowledging the high expectations that come with playing quarterback at Texas.
“There’s a lot of pressure playing quarterback at the University of Texas,” McCoy said. “For them, I would just say, ‘You have a wonderful team around you. This team is built to win a championship. So just go out there and execute… and lean on each other… ignore the noise, and play your game.'”
