Texas Dealt Unfortunate Injury News Ahead of College Football Playoff….

Sad news for Texas Longhorns: He won’t return….

Texas fans received a discouraging injury update on Thursday evening.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that Texas’ No. 1 wide receiver, Isaiah Bond, is a long shot to play against Clemson in the first round of the College Football Playoff on Dec. 21.

Bond originally suffered an ankle injury against Oklahoma back in October. Although he has attempted to give it a go and push through the injury since, it has clearly hindered his play.Patrick Hudson not currently with the Texas team - Burnt Orange Nation

Against Georgia in the SEC Championship game on Dec. 7, Bond re-aggravated the high ankle sprain and was seen in a walking boot shortly after the loss. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian told the media that Bond was “shut down” over the bye week to rehab the injury but was optimistic that he could give it a go against Clemson.

There doesn’t appear to be much optimism surrounding Bond’s availability for Saturday anymore. Thamel’s report states that Bond faces “long odds” to play against the Tigers. “He may end up a game-time decision on Saturday, but has done limited football activity this week and has been focused on rehab work,” Thamel said. “Bond would need to significantly improve in the next two days to be healthy enough to go.”

Should Texas defeat Clemson, it’s likely Bond would be available for the quarterfinal matchup against Arizona State on Jan. 1. In the meantime, true freshman wide receiver Ryan Wingo has been taking snaps in place of Bond over the last two weeks of practice.
