Taylan May, a winger for the Penrith Panthers, was taken into custody and accused of domestic abuse.

A 22-year-old guy was taken into custody early on Saturday, according to New South Wales Police.

The man who was arrested was, according to the ABC, May.

NSW Police stated in a statement that the winger was accused of punching a lady he knew during a fight in April.

“About 5am today (Saturday), officers attached to Nepean Police Area Command arrested a 22-year-old man at an address at Penrith, in relation to an alleged domestic violence incident which occurred last month,” the NSW Police stated.

“At approximately nine o’clock on Monday, April 8, 2024, police received information that the man had beaten a woman he knew after they got into a fight at a Werrington residence.

“It is alleged he punched her in the face and leg.”

May faces two counts of stalking and intimidation with the intent to cause fear of physical harm, among other offenses, as well as assault resulting in actual bodily injury (DV).

He was given bail and is scheduled to appear in Penrith Local Court on Tuesday, May 28.

The Panthers and Warriors are scheduled to play on Sunday afternoon in Brisbane as part of the Magic Round.

May is not anticipated to play in the game and has not traveled to Brisbane with the Panthers team.

The Panthers said in a statement that they had forwarded the charges to the NRL Integrity Unit.

According to a club statement, “Penrith Panthers are aware of an alleged incident regarding player Taylan May, which has resulted in police charges.”

Panthers will collaborate with the NRL Integrity Unit during the investigation and has already notified them.

“As this is a legal matter, the club will make no further comment at this stage.”

Later on Saturday, NRL CEO Andrew Abdo discussed the event in an interview on commercial radio, saying it was regrettable that the conversation had to happen.
