‘Special’ £60m player wants to sign for Arsenal, not Newcastle in 2024

If Newcastle United are serious about re-signing Ivan Toney, they are already fighting a losing battle.

The Magpies sold Toney in 2018, and he has gone on to prove that they made a huge mistake. His goals for Peterborough United and Brentford have led to him becoming an England international, and it could soon earn him a mega money move.

The striker is currently serving an FA ban for breaching betting regulations, but will be eligible to play midway through January.

And that is when he could be on the move.

Newcastle interested in Ivan Toney reunion

It has been reported that Toney is expected to leave Brentford next year, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that the Bees will look for a fee between £50million and £60million.

That would make him a very expensive signing for Newcastle, who have been linked with the 27-year-old

. It was recently reported by iNewst Jamesthat Eddie Howe’s side are interested in bringing Toney back to S’ Park, but they face major competition.

Toney is also a target for Premier League title contenders Arsenal, and they appear to be the favourites.

Toney wants to sign for Arsenal

That is because the Daily Mail have reported that Toney is interested in joining Arsenal midway through the current season.

That will be music to the ears of Mikel Arteta, who needs a ‘special‘ goalscorer like Toney to spearhead his Premier League title charge.

With Toney and Arsenal seemingly singing from the same hymn sheet, it could mean Newcastle are powerless to stop the forward heading to the Emirates.

That is a shame, as Toney would be an incredible signing for the Magpies. He has unfinished business on Tyneside, having failed to make the grade back in the North East after his move from Northampton.

But, in truth, Newcastle do not need a player like Toney right now. Eddie Howe already has two top level strikers in Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson, and struggles to get them both in the starting lineup.

Signing a third goalscorer of such quality would not be sensible, and any forward who does arrive at St James’ Park will be a much younger prospect with eyes towards the future.
