Set To Make Major Contract Decision.

Broncos star set to make major call on his future…

Brisbane endured a nightmare campaign this season as they slumped from making an appearance in the grand final the previous year to missing the finals completely in 2024.

The Broncos massively underachieved as they finished in 12th spot on the ladder with questions around Kevin Walters’ future at the club inevitably arriving thick and fast in the post-mortem.

Kotoni Staags was a rare bright spot for Brisbane as he put in a number of impressive displays in the second half of the campaign when the club needed him the most.

However, the centre is due to come off-contract at the end of next season, so will be free to negotiate with rivals from November 1.

Staggs is just one of a number of big names who will be free to speak to clubs, if the Broncos don’t lock them down before the deadline.Kotoni Staggs, Reece Walsh

Reece Walsh is the highest profile, while Selwyn Cobbo is also in need of an extension at Red Hill.

With their salary cap already under pressure after handing long-term deals to forward leaders Payne Haas and Patrick Carrigan, Brisbane are in a tricky situation.

Although they have reportedly received some welcome news with Staggs’ management informing powerbrokers that the 25-year-old wants to remain at the club.

“My future is here at the Broncos – I’ve always been told to chase my dream and my dream as a young kid was to be here at the Broncos,” Staggs said when he last inked a deal with Brisbane three years ago.

“I’m here to send a message out to the fans that I’m here to stay at Brisbane, this is the club that I always dreamed of playing for and it’s my home.”Reece Walsh's Magic Round performance proves once again he's ready for prime time, and that means State of Origin - ABC News

“Kotoni’s passion for the Broncos is what has kept him at the club as well as his competitive drive – he’s the type of player that we need here at the club,” Walters added.

And it seems this loyalty and passion for the Broncos hasn’t dimmed in the ensuing years, with Staggs happy to ink a new deal before he becomes allowed to talk to rivals and field offers.
