‘Ridiculous’ Liverpool bid to be accepted by Aston Villa for Douglas Luiz

Liverpool would need to table a “ridiculous” bid in order to sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa at this stage of the summer transfer window, according to Alan Hutton.

CBS journalist Ben Jacobs told GiveMeSport on 27 August that internal discussions had been held at Liverpool regarding a potential move to sign Luiz, 25, this summer.

Liverpool have missed out on signing both Moises Caciedo and Romeo Lavia this summer, with Chelsea signing both for a combined total of over £150million.

Central and defensive midfielders have moved for huge fees this summer and due to the lateness in the transfer window and how vital Luiz is for Unai Emery at B6, Hutton doubts the Brazilian will be on the move unless a massive bid is submitted for him.

“It would have to be a huge offer due to the situation with defensive midfielders at this moment in time and how much they’re actually leaving for.

“Look at how Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo went for over £100million and Romeo Lavia went for nearly £60million.

“Liverpool would have to come in with something ridiculous at this time in the window to try and get Luiz out of Aston Villa.

“If Liverpool come in and offer the money, they’re a hard one to turn down because, let’s not kid ourselves, they’re a big football club.

“It would be a hard decision he’d have to make but ultimately, the club will decide whether the fee is big enough or not.”

Luiz has started all four of Villa’s matches this season, scoring in their wins over Everton and Hibernian.

Last term, the ex-Manchester City midfielder missed jus tone Premier League game as he scored six goals and supplied six assists in the top flight.
