Report: Dolphins to hire Ravens Asst. Head Coach/Defensive Line Coach Anthony Weaver as defensive coordinator

The Ravens lose another top assistant.

The Miami Dolphins have reportedly hired assistant head coach and defensive line coach Anthony Weaver to become their defensive coordinator, so head coach of the Ravens John Harbaugh will have a busy offseason ahead of him.

Weaver, 43, has been a member of the Ravens organization since 2021, serving as their run game coordinator and defensive line coach. He is now leaving the team for a more prominent position elsewhere. He stayed the defensive line coach but was elevated to assistant head coach a year later. The Ravens’ front seven saw one of its most fruitful seasons thanks in part to him and renowned pass rush specialist Chuck Smith. In 2023, the team had the most sacks in the NFL, led by defensive lineman Justin Madubuike’s 13 sacks.

Weaver had a stellar reputation and was one of the team’s most regarded coaches. Harbaugh lavished Weaver with accolades during the press conference that concluded the season.

“If he accepts the position as defensive coordinator with the Dolphins, I’ll be delighted for him. He’ll be an excellent head coach, but maybe I’m talking out of turn and I’ll be in trouble because this is against league policy. Although excellent coaches were hired during this cycle and he wasn’t, eventually people will look back and realize that they had the opportunity to hire Anthony Weaver. I promise you that. They will realize they were robbed of the opportunity. Someone will make sure they don’t miss their opportunity the next time.
