‘Really good quality’: Pedro Neto wowed by 26-year-old Wolves player despite Liverpool defeat

Pedro Neto expressed his disappointment about yesterday’s 3-1 defeat to Liverpool – but reserved praise for Wolves debutant Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.

Wolves lost at Molineux in frustrating fashion, having dominated the Reds in the first-half.

Wolves led 1-0 through Hwang Hee-chan, with Neto making a brilliant assist.

But the second-half performance was poor from Wolves.

They invited Liverpool to attack, and Jurgen Klopp’s side were about to score three goals.

The visitors’ second goal, scored by Andy Robertson, was effectively a gift, with Jose Sa completely messing up his kick out.

After the game, Gary O’Neil stated his unhappiness with that goal, and Pedro Neto also expressed his disappointment with the second half.

But the Portuguese did had some kind things to say about Bellegarde, who caught the eye on his debut…

Pedro Neto impressed by Jean-Ricner Bellegarde after he made Wolves debut vs Liverpool

Neto was outstanding for Wolves in the first-half, and gave Joe Gomez a torrid time.

And Bellegarde, making his debut for Wolves after his £13 million switch from Strasbourg, was also superb.

The Frenchman looked totally comfortable, and showed some brilliant touches.

He also collected the ball and made a few great bursts forward.

Neto said of his new teammate after the game (Wolves official): “He’s a guy with a really good attitude, really good quality. He comes here to improve the team. I think all of the guys who came to the team in the transfer window can add very good things to the team. Now let’s keep working and look to the next one.”

Bellegarde brought great energy against Liverpool

Bellegarde was definitely impressive against Liverpool and arguably, he and Neto were two players who did not deserve to be on the losing side yesterday.

The 26-year-old seems to have a lot of energy and carries and protects the ball really well.

If he can maintain these performances in the future, he will rapidly become a fan favorite at Molineux.

He is effectively Matheus Nunes’ replacement.

Based on his performance against Liverpool, he can easily make Wolves fans forget about the Portuguese, if it hasn’t already.
