Michael Beale’s summer signings already unsafe at Rangers after what Nils Koppen said upon Ibrox arrival

Rangers certainly haven’t been flawless under Philippe Clement, but they have certainly improved when compared to the displays under Michael Beale.

The former replaced the latter in the Rangers dugout in October, with midfield veteran Steven Davis having a brief interim spell in between.

The last manager to oversee a transfer window at the club was, therefore, Beale, with the boss bringing in nine players to Ibrox in the summer.

And while some have impressed, such as goalkeeper Jack Butland and loan attacker Abdallah Sima, others certainly haven’t.

That is particularly true of the likes of Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers, with the attacking duo failing to hit the heights expected of them so far at Ibrox. Dujon Sterling and Kieran Dowell meanwhile have barely featured since their moves to Glasgow in the summer.

And now their future at the Scottish club is under threat after comments made by Nils Koppen upon his appointment as Director of Football Recruitment on Friday (1 November).

“The Chairman and CEO have both been clear in recent times our player trading model has to function better and on a more regular basis,” Koppen told the official Rangers website.

“I look forward to working with the scouting team already here at the club to ensure we reach our goals in the coming years.”

The latter comment will certainly excite fans given how new players could arrive at Ibrox shortly, but the former comment may just worry the current group.

Koppen is clearly eager to make a positive impact at the club, and that may just involve the former PSV man making brutal decisions as soon as next month.

Player trading is his area, and he may just persuade Clement to allow those currently struggling on the pitch to head off in order to improve the overall picture at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, Ally McCoist was blown away by one Gers player who “looked the part” against Aris Limassol.
