Rangers injury list hits eight as club hope for international reprieve

Rangers’ injury list has now hit eight players as the Ibrox club hope for a reprieve from a devastating run of bad luck in the medical department.

Had it not been for the earlier than planned returns of Nicolas Raskin and Kemar Roofe, Rangers would be heading into the October international break with as many as ten on the injury list.

The situation also comes against the backdrop of Rangers’ managerial hunt with whoever comes into the Ibrox job well aware that there are several of the club’s top talents laid up on the treatment table.

Young Turkish international wing-back Ridvan Yilmaz has had the bulk of his Rangers career devastated by injury and the kid is the only defender on the list.

If Rangers can get Ridvan on the pitch consistently then they will have a solid option but so far, the £5m deal signed to sign the left-back from Besiktas has come in for major scrutiny.

It’s in the middle of the park that Rangers’ options have been most limited as of late, with the talismanic Todd Cantwell missing since the 1-0 defeat to Celtic at the start of September.

Throw in Kieran Dowell – not seen since the 2-2 draw with PSV at Ibrox in August – and Ryan Jack – who has just pulled out of the Scotland squad – and Rangers’ injury list quickly jumps up to four.

In the offensive side of the pitch, Rangers have seen their attack blunted in recent weeks by the loss of a number of options.

The apprehension of Rangers fans to get carried away about the return of Tom Lawrence proved to be valid, with the Welsh international’s three-game comeback being halted by yet another injury.

Form international teammate Rabbi Matondo also seen his bright start to the season stopped in its tracks with Rangers losing the winger for an initial six weeks only a couple of weeks ago.

Brazilian striker Danilo – who suffered a fractured cheekbone against St Johnstone – has revealed that he’s set for a further three weeks out of the team.

And last but by no means least is teenage striker Zak Lovelace who, despite impressing against St Mirren, props up Rangers injury list as the club await the outcome of a hamstring issue.
