Elye Wahi to miss Montpellier v Lyon amid West Ham transfer update

West Ham target Elye Wahi is set to miss his side’s Ligue 1 clash with Lyon on Saturday (19 August), according to Mohamed Toubache-Ter.

The former L’Equipe journalist reported via Twitter (18 August), that the 20-year-old striker is not in the group which will travel to face Lyon this weekend.

Toubache-Ter reports that the France Under-21 international is in the process of leaving Montpellier, which is the reason for his absence.

RMC Sports journalist, Fabrice Hawkins, also reported via Twitter (18 August) that West Ham and Lens have both almost reached agreements in prospective transfers.

Decision time

It seems as if the Hammers have done practically everything they can and it will now come down to the choice of the player. It is now extremely likely Wahi won’t line up in a Montpellier shirt again, with his exclusion from the squad to take on Lyon an indication that a transfer will go through this summer. The question is, to where?

Lens and West Ham both seem to be the frontrunners in the race for his signature, and the majority of supporters at the London Stadium would like to think they can beat the Ligue 1 side to the signing. Of course, both teams can offer Wahi European football, and Lens are able to better West Ham’s offer of the UEFA Europa League following their qualification to this year’s UEFA Champions League.

But David Moyes’ side will likely be able to offer a more lucrative contract and the chance to play in the Premier League and live in London, a desirable destination for a young footballer.

Now it is decision time, as fans of both clubs face an anxious wait.
