Former Player Reveals What Is Holding Back The Chiefs’ Offense
The Kansas City Chiefs haven’t been as dominant this season as they’ve been in year’s past.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is still playing at an elite level, but the offense only ranks 10th in scoring and the team has lost three of it’s past five games.
Much has been discussed about why the Chiefs don’t look as good this season, with one reason continuing to rise to the top: Drops by pass-catchers.
That’s what former NFL offensive lineman and current Amazon Prime Video analyst Andrew Whitworth believes is the cause of the offensive issues in Kansas City.
“For them, offensively, the lack of production and then just drops and mistakes by this receiver skill group has continued to be, over and over again – they can’t beat the narrative. I think that usually ends up being something that dooms you in the end,” he said.
The Chiefs still lead the NFL in dropped passes with 37 and have once again needed to rely on tight end Travis Kelce rather than a bonafide receiver.
Rookie wide receiver Rashee Rice has come on strong lately, though, with 32 receptions for 334 yards and three touchdowns in the team’s past four games.
But Rice still has a decent amount of drops this season, as well as fellow wideout Kadarius Toney.
The Chiefs still look like the favorites to win the AFC West, but will have a tough time competing in the playoffs if their pass-catchers can’t get it together in the team’s final three games before the end of the regular season.
