Anthony Modeste has no regrets over Borussia Dortmund move

Anthony Modeste has stated that despite failing to make an impact at Borussia Dortmund, he does not regret joining the club.

Following Sebastien Haller’s cancer diagnosis, Borussia Dortmund finalized the surprise signing of Anthony Modeste from FC Köln last summer. However, the veteran striker was unable to make the expected effect at BVB, scoring only two goals in 28 games.

The Black and Yellows released the 35-year-old after just one season and replaced him with Niclas Füllkrug.

But Modeste has now stated that he does not think joining Borussia Dortmund for just one season was a mistake. In an interview with Sport1, the French striker said:

“I understand that people might think that because my statistics were different in Dortmund, but for me BVB wasn’t a mistake. It was a great challenge for me, I finally played in the Champions League. And I fought for the title until the last matchday, so where exactly was the mistake?”

Modeste believes that Borussia Dortmund can win the Bundesliga this season despite a shaky start that has seen them draw two of their first three games.

“The start hasn’t been as hoped, but they won’t give up. In life and in football, things can change quickly, in one direction or another.”

Anthony Modeste is now a free agent in his own right. He is, nonetheless, determined to take on another task. In recent days, he has been linked with a move to Eintracht Frankfurt. However, he appears to be on his way to Egypt, with rumors suggesting that he is in advanced talks to join Al-Ahly.
