After concluding the 2023 season as the primary option for the Pittsburgh Steelers, quarterback Mason Rudolph found himself traded to the Tennessee Titans, assuming the role of backup quarterback behind second-year player Will Levis. However, some speculate that Rudolph’s position within the team could evolve.

Brad Gagnon, a writer for Bleacher Report, identifies Rudolph as one of six NFL backups with the potential to become a “household name” during the upcoming 2024 season. Gagnon points to Levis’ inconsistent performance and low passing percentage, suggesting that Rudolph may have an opportunity to challenge for the starting role.

While Levis started strongly, posting impressive passer ratings in his initial games, his performance tapered off with completion rates below 60% and subpar ratings in his final starts. Gagnon contends that if this trend persists into 2024, Levis may struggle to maintain his starting position.

Despite Rudolph’s relatively modest achievements during his tenure in Pittsburgh, Gagnon highlights his underlying talent and youthfulness at 28 years old. Rudolph’s promising performance in limited appearances for the Steelers in 2023 further bolsters his case for potential success.

During three starts in 2023, Rudolph boasted a perfect 3-0 record, accumulating 719 passing yards and three touchdowns. However, his three fumbles in limited playing time raise some concerns.

As Rudolph prepares to embark on this new chapter with the Titans, his recent successes and the potential for further development position him as a player to watch in the upcoming season.
