Pies defender facing uncertain future following grand final concussion

Nathan Murphy’s management has reportedly consulted the AFL to have their client independently assessed.

Nathan Murphy’s future as a Magpies defender is in jeopardy after suffering a concussion in Collingwood’s grand final victory last month.

Murphy has acquired a reputation for being prepared to go back with the flight since his debut in 2018, actions that have frequently left the 23-year-old wounded and broken.

According to News Corp, Murphy’s head knock in the first term of this year’s decider left him with concussion symptoms, the eleventh time this has happened in his junior and AFL careers.

Murphy’s management is said to have contacted the AFL after the premiership triumph to have the headband-wearing interceptor evaluated by outside practitioners.

Collingwood, Murphy, his family, and management are currently waiting for a call.

According to the article, while Murphy was not formally ruled out of the grand final after being picked up by Lion Lincoln McCarthy, the defender subbed himself out due to hazy vision.

Murphy is also alleged to have abstained from alcohol during the Pies’ record-tying 16th championship win.

The Sandringham Dragons product has represented Collingwood on 57 occasions, including each of the club’s six finals during the Craig McRae era.
