Dave MacKinnon makes John Bennett admission, details how Rangers can be successful

Dave MacKinnon has called on Rangers chairman John Bennett to make it clear what the club’s vision is moving forward.

The analyst stated the Gers chairman’s heart is in the right place, but he suggested the absence of a clear vision could be “part of the problem” because the players won’t comprehend what they are trying to do. He made this comment in an interview with The National on Tuesday, October 24.

A clear description of the goals, he continued, could be a “huge thing” since it would enable Light Blues supporters to support the plans and support the team in achieving its goals.

“Clubs need to align every aspect of their organisation, from the boardroom, from the chief executive, to the manager, to the players, to the fans,” said MacKinnon. “Everybody needs to have the same objective. There needs to be a clear vision for the club.

“I don’t know if Rangers have quite done that yet. What is their short-term objective? What is their long-term vision? I am sure they have a plan, but in order to progress that, they need to make it public.

“John Bennett is a great guy and his heart is genuinely in the right place. He genuinely wants success for the club. But unless there is a clear vision right throughout the entire club, players will drift in and out of games, will not understand what they have to achieve. It is difficult to know from the outside, but that is perhaps part of the problem.

“I think a clear statement of what their objectives are on and off the park is a huge thing. The fans have to be part of it as well. I have been at many clubs where fan involvement is a huge part of the success. If they know what they are trying to achieve, they will get behind the club. At the moment, I don’t know if they have got that message.”

Collective effort

It needs to be a collective effort from everyone associated with Rangers to help the club get back on track and start moving forward again.

The Gers have had nowhere near enough success over the past few years for a club of their stature and it won’t be easy to turn things around, on and off the pitch.

The Light Blues have gone backwards recently and that comes from there being a lack of identity and real planning behind the scenes to get the right people in at Ibrox

The latest managerial change may be something that kickstarts that process as the board does appear to be looking to move in a different direction.

While Philippe Clement is the latest man charged with bringing about better results on the pitch, he needs people working alongside him to put the plans in place for short – as well as long-term – success over the next few years.
