OFFICIAL: Pittsburgh Steelers Agree Deal to Sign GM Omar Khan from New Orleans Saints

In a move that has stunned the NFL world, the Pittsburgh Steelers have completed the signing of General Manager Omar Khan from the New Orleans Saints. The agreement, finalized early this morning, includes a deal valid until June 2030. The Steelers will pay a reported €17 million upfront, with a further €3 million in performance-based add-ons—an unprecedented fee in the world of NFL front-office deals.

Medical checks were completed at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex just hours before the announcement, confirming the 47-year-old executive’s arrival as the new architect of Pittsburgh’s future. The transfer marks a bold shift in strategy for the Steelers, who rarely make high-profile front-office acquisitions.

Khan, a veteran executive with over two decades of experience in NFL administration, returns to Pittsburgh after a brief but impactful tenure as Director of Football Operations with the Saints. Known for his salary cap wizardry, long-term roster planning, and analytical acumen, Khan is seen as one of the league’s most forward-thinking minds. His role in building competitive teams while managing tight financial constraints made him a top target for organizations seeking sustainable success.

A native of New Orleans, Khan originally spent over 20 years with the Steelers before his move to the Saints in early 2024. He now returns home, this time with the full authority of the GM role and a mandate to guide Pittsburgh back to Super Bowl contention.

Steelers President Art Rooney II commented on the move, saying:
“Omar understands the DNA of this franchise. His vision, intelligence, and deep connection to the Steelers make him the perfect fit for where we are and where we want to go.”

Khan is expected to begin work immediately, with several major decisions pending — including contract extensions for key defensive stars and the evaluation of quarterback Kenny Pickett’s long-term fit.

While transfer fees and contracts of this nature are common in global football, they remain rare in the NFL — making this deal not only groundbreaking but symbolic of a broader evolution in how franchises value top-tier front-office talent.

With the contract now signed and the transition complete, all eyes turn to Khan as he takes charge of one of the NFL’s most storied franchises.
