Latest Nottingham Forest injury news as midfielder Lewis O’Brien suffers an injury while in action for Middlesbrough against Watford in the Championship

Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien has suffered a potentially serious injury while on loan at Middlesbrough.

O’Brien took a knock to his ankle on Saturday afternoon during a 3-2 win away at Watford, and he was substituted after just 36 minutes. Speaking after the match, Boro boss Michael Carrick admitted he is “fearing the worst” for the 24-year-old.Carrick said it “doesn’t look good” for O’Brien, but the midfielder will have to get a scan to determine the extent of his injury. If the problem is serious, O’Brien may have to return to Forest for treatment.

“It doesn’t look good, to be honest,” Carrick admitted after the game on Saturday. “With Lewis, we’re expecting the worst. We’ll have to wait for scans, but it’s possible that he’ll be out for a while.

“It was a whack on his ankle and the bottom of his shin bone.” Fingers crossed it doesn’t turn out to be as catastrophic as feared, but it doesn’t look promising right now.”

O’Brien has made six loan appearances for Middlesbrough this season, five of which have come in the Championship. From midfield, he has yet to score or assist.
