Wood, Hudson-Odoi, Danilo – Nottingham Forest injury state of play ahead of Aston Villa clash

Latest Nottingham Forest news as Steve Cooper’s Reds prepare for Premier League clash with Villa at the City Ground

Although they had hoped for better luck this season with injuries, Nottingham Forest’s luck seems to be turning slowly.

A lot of players are sidelined for the Reds as they attempt to snap a six-game losing streak. After making a recovery in Sunday’s 3-0 loss to Liverpool, Taiwo Awoniyi will receive special treatment since Forest cannot afford for him to relapse, especially given that Chris Wood’s injury has further limited their offensive options.

Steve Cooper’s team will next host Aston Villa on Sunday. We examine the current injury situation ahead of the match at the City Ground.

What we know: When Wood sustained an injury in the days leading up to the match, Forest had to make a last-minute adjustment to their Anfield game plan. Despite having scored two goals the week before against Luton Town, he is now anticipated to miss at least four weeks of action. Due to his absence, the visiting team faced Liverpool without a designated striker from the outset.

What has been stated: Prior to Sunday’s game, Cooper stated, “Unfortunately, Woody picked up a hamstring injury.” “He’ll be away from it for a short while.”

“He did his hamstring a couple of days ago,” he continued thereafter. To be honest, the timing couldn’t be worse.”

Callum Hudson-Odoi

A hamstring injury.

What is known: During the warm-up for the Luton encounter, the summer signing strained his hamstring. He will now be sidelined for an extended period of time.

“Callum is out for six weeks,” is what has been stated. He has a pulled hamstring,” Cooper said.

Divock Origi

Trauma: Hip.

What is known: The forward was added to the list of players injured before the matchup with the Hatters, just like Hudson-Odoi. It is anticipated that he will be gone for several weeks.

What has been stated is that Divock is injured in his hip. That will keep him out of action for a good few weeks,” Cooper stated following the game. “With injuries, we haven’t had a great week, especially with our attacking players.” Since Taiwo is evidently also out of commission, today’s offensive adjustments were essentially identical.”

Gonzalo Montiel

Shear: calf.

What is known: During the most recent international break, the defender was serving with Argentina. He took the field for their midweek encounter against Peru, but an injury forced him to leave the game after just over 30 minutes. After his return to the UK, additional testing was scheduled to ascertain the severity of the issue.

What has been said: Cooper stated at his pre-match press conference prior to Luton that “he’s only recently returned to the country.” We’ll evaluate it in-house. According to the preliminary scans, there appears to be a calf damage.

Since Gonzalo has only recently returned, we will need to have a thorough assessment by the medics to determine the full degree of the damage. I hope it’s not as

Taiwo Awoniyi

Wound: Groin.

What is known: The striker’s groin injury during the 1-1 draw with Brentford was a major setback for the Reds. Although it happened on the opposite leg this season, he experienced a similar issue the previous season.

On Merseyside, he made his comeback off the bench. Cooper will use caution with him this week, though.

What was said: “It’s great he’s got on,” the Reds manager remarked following the game. What’s even more significant is that he has escaped unharmed. For the minutes, he should be fine.

We have an entire training week ahead of us. I’m hoping he’s free to do all of that, and if he is, it will put him in a better position to play against Aston Villa on Sunday.

“We shall accept each day as it comes. He suffered another embarrassing injury, so we need to exercise caution with him—possibly even more so in light of Chris’s current circumstances.

“The minutes he played were approved for him to play. We may have started him on a little earlier than we should have, but we made it through, and he reported feeling OK. We’re hoping to build on that this week.”

Nuno Tavares

Wound: Groin.

What is known: The full-back was substituted out of the match forty minutes into Forest’s loss to Manchester City on his debut. After receiving treatment, he attempted to continue, but ultimately hobbled off after appearing to tweak something while running forward. Having participated in some part-training during the lead-up, he was on the bench against Liverpool but did not see action.

Danilo

A hamstring injury.

What is known: The Brazilian was scheduled to play in the Carabao Cup against Burnley, but a hamstring injury forced a last-minute substitution. Before the match against Chelsea, he had a scan, therefore he was doubtful to travel.

The midfield player was allowed to start at Stamford Bridge and played for just over forty-five minutes. Towards the end of the first half, he pulled up and left the field after getting medical attention. After that, he left the Brazil Under-23 team and hasn’t played for the Reds since, but he did participate in some training last week alongside Tavares and Felipe.

What has been stated: Cooper stated of the three, “They are back in part-training, not full training.” Since Danilo has been absent for what seems like a long time, we must exercise caution when reintegrating him.

They participated in a few warm-ups and a few non-contact drills. I hope that’s the next phase of their healing.”

Felipe

Knee is injured.

What is known: The defender hardly trained over the summer and was unable to participate in any of the Reds’ preseason games due to a knee injury. After entering in January, he too didn’t put in much training time, but he managed to win games by making “sacrifices”.

He hasn’t played for the first team yet this season, but he did sit on the bench at Chelsea and against Burnley in the Carabao Cup. After that, he appeared for the Under-21s for an hour in the EFL Trophy encounter against Harrogate Town, but he hasn’t been included in a competitive squad since.

What has been said: Cooper stated last week that Felipe “has not had an easy time.” It’s awful since everyone witnessed not just how good he performed the previous season, but also how important and impactful he was on other people. We have undoubtedly missed that. Everyone will benefit greatly if we can get him back.
