Colin Fray says Nottingham Forest fans would always welcome 27-year-old back at the City Ground

Colin Fray has given his assessment of Nottingham Forest’s decision to allow Joe Worrall to go on loan to Besiktas.

It appears that Fray is a major Worrall fan and thinks the player deserves recognition for his accomplishments at the City Ground.

The 27-year-old center back made just nine appearances in the 2023–24 season, falling far down the pecking order.

It was rumored earlier in the season that Worrall had chosen not to pick Steve Cooper because of a falling out between the two.

But because of the work Worrall did to get Forest back into the Premier League, Fray thinks he should be welcomed back to the team at any time.

“I think we’ll remember him as somebody who always wore his heart on his sleeve, was very forthright whenever he would speak in interviews right from when he made his debut,” he said in an interview with the Shut Up And Show More Football podcast.

“I guess that gave you a good idea of where he was going to go in his career. As soon as he demonstrated that he could play at the caliber that Forest was playing at, he was guaranteed to earn a captain’s armband.

Like all the other members of that squad, he will never truly be forgotten. Like so many other Forest players, Worrall is currently on loan. He, along with all other Forest players, will always be welcomed back to the City Ground, regardless of the team they are playing for at the time.

Worrall is hoping for another opportunity at City Ground.
The loan includes the possibility for Worrall to relocate permanently to Besiktas, though that may not happen.

In an interview with TalkSPORT last week, Worrall mentioned that he would be open to returning to the Forest team in the future.

With Besiktas, the 27-year-old will be optimistic about his chances of being drafted into the team. He is eager to experience regular first-team football once more.

Even though Worrall should continue to have a positive legacy, some fans will understandably harbor some animosity toward him.

Cooper chose to throw the toys out of the pram after his head coach benched him, something he probably regrets now that he’s a leader instead of a follower.

Worrall has hinted that Forest currently have better center backs at their disposal, which is our opinion. Therefore, it is probably best for all parties if the Reds stay in the Premier League to make a permanent exit.
