Latest Nottingham Forest news from NottinghamshireLive as Anthony Elanga pulls out of the Sweden squad

Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga has been forced to pull out of the Sweden squad with an unspecified injury.

The 21-year-old arrived at the City Ground from Manchester United in the summer. He has scored two goals in Garibaldi Red so far, with one of them coming during Sunday’s 3-2 defeat at West Ham.

But he could now potentially be facing a spell on the sidelines. Sweden manager Janne Andersson announced Elanga’s withdrawal from international duty at a press conference on Monday according to Fotbollskanalen (via SportWitness).

“Something happened during the match (against West Ham) that caused him to suffer an injury,” he said.

The club has to communicate what the status is, but it was not good enough for him to contribute during this international break.”

Forest will be hoping that Elanga will be back fit for their next Premier League clash after the international break. Steve Cooper’s side will be in action against Brighton on Saturday, November 25.

Morgan Gibbs-White faces Nottingham Forest demand over set pieces and ‘frivolous’ flicks

The latest Nottingham Forest news and views from Nottinghamshire Live as the Garibaldi Red podcast discusses Morgan Gibbs-White’s performance against West Ham United

Morgan Gibbs-White has come under scrutiny from Nottingham Forest fans over his performances from fans this season and that only continued after the defeat to West Ham United.

The former Wolves man was a key player last season as Forest stayed in the Premier League. He remains an important component in the side and has captained Forest in the last two games. However, he has registered just one assist this season so far.

Gibbs-White remains on set pieces, but some supporters have called for him to be replaced in that area to give an alternative player such as Harry Toffolo a chance. With that in mind, Gibbs-White’s form and deliveries were debated on the latest Garibaldi Red podcast with former Forest midfielder David Prutton and fan Michael Temple. Here’s a look at what was said…

MT: It’s about outcome isn’t it. We have to ask if it’s time for someone else to have a try. It’s a big responsibility to be on set-pieces. There’s going to be frustration from centre-halves if they make an 80 yard dash for a corner that sails over their heads.

What’s going on with his deliveries? I don’t know. He’s certainly not as consistent as James Ward-Prowse is but neither is there separation between our big lads and markers to score. I do like the inswinging corners. The technique Premier League players have to take outswinging corners and have them land in the six yard box is incredible.

He’s taking everything from both sides. Toffolo’s delivery is reputedly very strong. I’d like to see him take the right sided corners but Gibbs-White does seem to have a monopoly on them and they’re not being converted into goals.

Does he try and do too much?

DP: The thing with Morgan is he’s technically very gifted. As a journeyman clogger I respect his desire to want the ball and try stuff.

There was one instance what Paqueta went down like he was in Platoon and Morgan backheeled it with no one around him and it went three or four yards in front of it’s intended target.

In those instances as a teammate and fan you’re going there’s no need for that. It doesn’t take anyone out of the game. It’s frivolity for frivolity’s sake. Taking the rough with the smooth, I think he’s put on a platform because he can be so creative. You see what he can do but also what he’s not doing.

If Steve Cooper thinks Morgan is struggling to take set pieces then take him off them, but who is next up?

Should he come out of the team?

MT: He can be everything Forest want but there doesn’t need to be Hollywood flicks. Sky before the game said he is top in our team for shots, dribbles, touches, touches in the opposition box, chances created, distance run, duels won, possession won and through balls.
