’NOT EVEN CLOSE’: JAMIE CARRAGHER SAYS £60K-WEEK NEWCASTLE MAN THE BEST FROM HIS COUNTRY

Jamie Carragher says Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is ‘the best English manager’ today and ‘it’s not even close’.

The Liverpool legend was reacting to Newcastle United smashing PSG 4-1 in the Champions League last night.

When Eddie Howe first took charge of the club, the new Saudi-led owners had just come in, but they were hovering above the Premier League’s relegation zone.

Yet, within months of joining, Newcastle looked like a different animal, including players like Joelinton and Miguel Almiron, who struggled under Steve Bruce, transforming into key first-team players.

That very same Miguel Almiron scored the opening goal of the first Champions League night at St James’ Park in two decades.

Carragher added that not even Jurgen Klopp or Pep Guardiola could have done such a job at the club, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (04/10/23 at 10:05 pm).

Eddie Howe stands alone

“He is the best English manager, it’s not even close,” said Carragher. “People were a little sceptical when he first got the job because of the money Newcastle have got.

“Can they someone better? Can they maybe get a Champions League-winning manager? I don’t think Pep Guardiola or even Jurgen Klopp would have done more than what Eddie Howe has done at Newcastle in these last couple of years.

“So, where they were near the bottom of the Premier League to now beating PSG at home in the Champions League, it’s an absolutely miraculous job he has done.”

Future England manager?

Newcastle fans won’t like that talk, but if the £60k-a-week man (90Min) continues in his current ways, then the obvious talk will start.

Especially if England fail to win Euro 2024 and Gareth Southgate leaves.

Yes, if your country comes calling, then it’s harder to turn down. But so would leaving Newcastle any time in these coming years because they are seriously roaring to the top.
