Spring football has wrapped up for the Florida State Seminoles, marking the beginning of a period where the program anticipates some player turnover over the next few weeks through the NCAA Transfer Portal. To meet the 85-man scholarship limit, the Seminoles need to release at least four players, though it’s likely more will depart.

Recently, redshirt freshman wide receiver Vandrevius Jacobs was reported to have entered the portal, as noted by 247Sport’s Matt Zenitz. Jacobs, who just completed his first year at Tallahassee, was vying for a spot in a competitive wide receiver corps.

Despite showing promise during the Garnet & Gold Spring Showcase, where he led in receiving with two catches for 61 yards and a touchdown, Jacobs struggled with consistency and made some mental errors throughout spring practice. During the 2023 season, he appeared in five games, tallying three catches for 60 yards and a touchdown.

Originally recruited as a four-star prospect in #Tribe23, Jacobs had a strong showing during spring practice last year before being hampered by injuries during the season.

Jacobs’ departure brings the total scholarship wide receivers at FSU to 12. Meanwhile, the Seminoles have had three other players, cornerback Greedy Vance and wide receiver Joshua Burrell, enter the portal this spring. Currently, FSU is projected to be over the scholarship limit, sitting at 88/85 scholarships.

During the winter transfer portal window, which closed on January 4, FSU saw a significant number of players enter the portal, including quarterback Tate Rodemaker, running back Rodney Hill, and defensive tackle Malcolm Ray, among others.
