The 3 Southampton players already facing up to a January full of speculation

Southampton could be set for a busy January transfer window.

Southampton’s ability to keep Kyle Walker-Peters will be critical, as there will be interested parties if the dependable defender becomes available at a reasonable price during the January transfer window.
Kamaldeen Sulemana’s quickness and direct approach make him an appealing potential for other clubs, and while Southampton is unlikely to trade due to his long contract, it remains to be seen if the player would agitate for a departure.
Southampton may have to consider selling Che Adams in the January transfer window, as he has entered the final year of his contract and a fee for the Scottish striker is possible. With the return of Ross Stewart, his impact may be diminished.

Southampton had a very busy summer following their relegation to the Championship, as one would anticipate.

Russell Martin was named the new head coach, and he knew he would inherit a squad that had been shattered, with several key players departing. The most high-profile transactions saw West Ham sign skipper James Ward-Prowse, while Chelsea won the race to sign Romeo Lavia.

Losing the duo, among others, was disappointing, but the large amounts garnered meant the Saints could maintain several players they had planned to sell.

Much of the squad had been the subject of continual speculation, so Martin was no doubt relieved when the window closed.

However, it will undoubtedly resume in January, and if Southampton aren’t in contention for promotion, certain players may wish to move on, and the manager may be willing to make changes.

And here are THREE players that will undoubtedly make transfer headlines in the coming year…

Kyle Walker-Peters

Keeping the former Tottenham Hotspur star was a huge coup for Southampton, since he was a consistent performer in the Premier League.

At 26, he is in his prime years, and the reality is that he could easily be playing in the top tier right now, so if he was available at a reasonable price during the winter window, he would be snapped up.

With Walker-Peters’ contract expiring in 2025, Southampton will face a key moment in the coming year, as they will not want to risk losing him on a free transfer. As a result, this is one to keep an eye on.

Kamaldeen Sulemana

Another player who was linked with a move all summer, the quick winger has stayed at Southampton and is expected to be a vital player this season.

However, his reputation suggests that there will be increased interest in the former Rennes man in the coming months, as he has the ability to make a difference in the final third with his pace and direct approach.

Sulemana, unlike Walker-Peters, has a long contract with Southampton and will not be forced to sell. However, we know that this isn’t always the case, since the player may push to move, so it’ll be fascinating to watch how it plays out.

Che Adams

Another player who has been linked with a move away all summer, the fast winger has stayed at Southampton. It’s almost certain that Adams will be linked with a move elsewhere, and Southampton may have to cash in.

The striker is in the final year of his contract, and while it was speculated that he may sign an extension before joining Wolves on Deadline Day, that did not happen.

As things stand, the January transfer window is Southampton’s last chance to get a fee for the Scottish international. Of course, that does not imply they will not sell, as the club may assess the implications of a sale on their promotion push as well as the riches that returning to the Premier League would bring.
