27-year-old Newcastle player not spotted in training ahead of Liverpool game

Newcastle United welcome Liverpool to St James’ Park on Sunday, and the early indication is that the Magpies could be without a key player.

Joelinton was forced off with injury against Manchester City on Saturday night. He appeared to hurt himself when making a challenge on Phil Foden, and was subsequently replaced by Sean Longstaff.

After the game, Eddie Howe was unsure what the problem was for the 27-year-old, and just hoped that he was going to be ok for Newcastle’s next game.

That is on Sunday, when the Magpies take on Liverpool in the 4.30pm fixture. It should be an enthralling game, and a great chance for Newcastle to bounce back after losing to Man City.

However, there is a chance that Howe might be forced into a change.

Joelinton not seen in Newcastle training pictures

That is because Joelinton has not been spotted in any of the training photos that the club have published on their official website.

Newcastle have uploaded 26 pictures from one of their sessions this week, with Lewis Hall involved following his arrival on loan from Chelsea.

However, Joelinton is conspicuous by his absence. There is every chance that the cameras have simply not picked him up, but the fact he has not been spotted is obviously concerning.

But all hope should not be lost. Fabian Schar was not seen ahead of the Aston Villa game, until he sneakily cropped up in a video before playing the full 90 minutes against Unai Emery’s side.

As well as Joelinton, Kieran Trippier has not been spotted. He is not known to be an injury concern, so it is probably just a case of not being photographed.

Hopefully that is the case for Joelinton, but the fact he has not been seen is obviously worrying ahead of the Liverpool game.

If he is unavailable, it should present an opportunity to either Elliot Anderson or Sean Longstaff.
