Newcastle United supporters are gearing up for an eventful summer as they seek to move past the disappointment of missing out on European competition. Despite recent memories of thrilling Champions League encounters, the prospect of a Europa Conference League adventure was dashed following Manchester United’s FA Cup Final victory over Manchester City.

Now shifting focus to the transfer window, manager Eddie Howe faces key decisions as he heads into his third full season at St. James’ Park. Can Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak be retained? What lies ahead for Sean Longstaff, Callum Wilson, and Martin Dubravka as their contracts near expiration? And crucially, can the club navigate the Premier League’s financial regulations while strengthening the squad?

These questions will unfold in the months ahead, but 3AddedMinutes took an early dive into Football Manager 2024 to simulate Newcastle’s potential summer dealings:

Goalkeepers: The goalkeeping department sees minimal change, with Loris Karius departing as a free agent. Nick Pope remains the preferred choice, backed up by Martin Dubravka, while Mark Gillespie earns a promotion to third choice.

Defenders: In defense, there’s significant movement. Departures include Jamal Lewis, Matt Targett, and Jamaal Lascelles, fetching a combined £17m. Daniele Rugani arrives from Juventus for £4m, while Robin Le Normand joins from Real Sociedad for £35m. Miguel Gutierrez addresses the left-back issue with a £30m move from Girona, with Hiroki Ito signed from Stuttgart for £15m to provide cover.

This snapshot from the Football Manager simulation offers an intriguing glimpse into the potential reshaping of Newcastle’s squad ahead of the new season.
