‘I hope’: £12m Newcastle man thinks he is one of Eddie Howe’s most reliable players

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe prefers to work with players he can rely on.

This has been a significant influence in the promotion of youth players to the first team. Earlier this season, Howe stated that he has complete faith in Elliot Anderson, and he said the same about Lewis Miley after his first senior start against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.

The Magpies now have a roster that is deep and full of players who Howe is willing to throw into action if necessary.

That is the situation with Jacob Murphy, who struggled early in the season. The 28-year-old made only a few appearances before being picked to the starting XI for the Champions League opening against AC Milan.

Newcastle’s biggest game since the Carabao Cup final, and Howe put his faith in Murphy to start. That demonstrates how much he believes in the £12 million man, and Murphy has since spoken about being a dependable player to whom the manager can always turn.

Jacob Murphy hopes that he is the ‘manager’s dream’

Murphy has spoke to the club’s official website about being a player who Howe can rely on at Newcastle United.

“The manager knows what he gets from me – a detailed understanding of how he wants us to play – and for me, it’s all about being reliable and being someone he can count on in any situation,” he said.

“Whether we’re winning a game and need to see it out, whether we’re chasing a game and need to get a goal. It’s being reliable. I hope that’s the manager’s dream!”

Newcastle can always turn to Murphy

It is incredible to see how far Jacob Murphy has come in a Newcastle shirt.

It did not work out for him when he first arrived, but that has massively changed under the guidance of Eddie Howe.

The Toon boss turned to Murphy a lot last season, and he produced some key moments as the Magpies finished in the top four and qualified for the Champions League.

He perfectly sums up the team spirit on Tyneside right now. No matter what he is asked to do, he comes in and does it. That is why Howe used him so often last season, and it is why we will see Murphy more and more as the current campaign goes on.

Being reliable is a brilliant quality to have, and it is one that Murphy boasts in abundance.
