Asamoah Gyan shares verdict on Mohammed Kudus after West Ham United ace plays for Ghana

Asamoah Gyan lauded West Ham midfielder Mohammed Kudus’ performance for Ghana against the Central African Republic, declaring him “the star man in this Black Stars team.”

The all-time Ghana leading scorer praised the Hammers player on his personal X account on September 8, highlighting his “composed” and “realised” performance in the AFCON qualifier.

He did, however, declare that there is “more room for improvement” in the Ghana side, but he plainly believes that Kudus is the Black Stars’ bright light.

“I loved how Kudus played,” Gyan added. He was calmer and caught the balls at the correct time. For me, he is the star of this Black Stars team right now. There is still opportunity for improvement.”

high regard

It must be an honor to receive such appreciation from a true national team legend. Gyan retired from the Black Stars in May 2019, but Kudus made his debut later that year in November, therefore the pair barely missed each other as international colleagues.

While they never shared a pitch as teammates, Ghana’s new “star” is evidently viewed highly by Gyan, who will hope the Hammers’ new star can aid with the “improvements” required in the national side.

Kudus will be eager to assist the Black Stars in improving, as an average team effort nearly resulted in an upset against much lesser opponents.

Kudus’ effort was crucial in the Black Stars’ 2-1 triumph over the Central African Republic, with his late first-half freekick scorching past the goalkeeper to tie the game.

The 23-year-old made his West Ham debut as a late substitute in the Hammers’ 2-1 win over Luton Town at Kenilworth Road – three points that kept them in the Top 4 heading into the international break.

Kudus will return to a surging West Ham squad that has surpassed many expectations after a relegation-threatened season in the Premier League last season.

Gyan is the latest to hail the former Ajax man’s praises, but he could soon be the “star” of West Ham as well.
