New recruit stakes claim to be Philippe Clement’s go to Rangers hero

When Fabio Silva signed with Rangers before the transfer market was even officially open, Philippe Clement set everything in motion early.

With the arrival of Mohamed Diomande and Oscar Cortes, the manager of the Gers was obviously eager to increase the variety and strength of his forward line.

Though some questioned if Fabio Silva was the kind of player the Rangers really needed, the 21-year-old has moved quickly to allay these worries.

In response to Rangers’ opening goal, Fabio Silva calms the striker’s anxieties.
The Wolves forward on loan has already made it clear what kind of striker he is—he isn’t a number nine who will scurry in and around the box, like Antonio Colak or Jermaine Defoe might.

Paradoxically, Fabio Silva begun his Rangers career with precisely this kind of goal.

The former Porto wonderkid clarified that there is more to his game than just goals when asked if he was pleased to get off to a good start.

“I’m a striker, so of course I’m thrilled. Everyone knows that goals are our lifeblood, but what matters most is how I can contribute to the team’s movement and work, both offensively and defensively.

“That’s what I always say, but it’s true. Work hard and do the right things, and the rest falls into place.

Naturally, it will happen, but for me, it’s significant and offers me assurance.

“The outcome is what matters most.”

If Rangers supporters give Fabio Silva a chance, they will come to adore him as a striker.

His style has similarities to that of Nikica Jelavic in that he can move the ball fast with technical skill and will drift around, switching roles with wingers and midfielders.

After starting him at Easter Road, Philippe Clement believes Silva is a player he can rely on, and the early indications are that he will pose a threat to opposing defenders.

Contrary to some strikers, Silva understands that it’s not only about him, which is why Clement finds him so endearing in the midst of rumours that he may stay with the team longer.
