Mario Cristobal could do what no coach has done at Miami on the recruiting trail after landing 5-star DL Justin Scott

Miami has never signed back-to-back top ten classes in the 247Sports era. That dates back to the 2011 recruiting cycle.

Mario Cristobal has essentially ensured his alma mater will do just that for the first time after landing a massive commitment from Chicago (Ill.) St. Ignatius five-star defensive lineman Justin Scott who stunned the recruiting industry on Wednesday wh

Mario Cristobal is well on his way to getting the roster to a place where it’s built to compete for championships and Scott is a fresh reminder that he is as elite as they come when it comes to generating results on the recruiting trail.

Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna Top247 safety Zaquan Patterson, Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna Top247 wide receiver Joshisa Trader, Moultrie (Ga.) Colquitt County Top247 wide receiver Ny Carr, and Chicago (Ill.) Kenwood Academy Top247 EDGE Marquise Lightfoot are other key members of this Hurricanes class.

7 overall player and No. 3 defensive lineman in the Class of 2024 shot the Hurricanes up six spots in the recruiting rankings. They now sit at No. 5 nationally, trailing only Alabama, Florida State, Ohio State, and Georgia, while leaping in-state rival Florida, Oregon, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and Texas.

Scott becomes the highest rated commitment in Miami’s class and the lone five-star prospect to commit to the Hurricanes this cycle and his decision catapults the program into an elite tier when it comes to the talent acquisition process.

Last cycle, the Hurricanes inked the No. 7 class and multiple members of that group became key contributors in year one of the Mario Cristobal era. Defensive end Rueben Bain was named the ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year just a few hours before Scott announced his commitment.

Running back Mark Fletcher emerged as Miami’s No. 1 tailback late in the season and helped the Hurricanes establish a strong running game, while right tackle Francis Mauigoa played nearly every snap of the season in year

one.
