Fans will definitely remember the last name of one of the contenders for the Miami Dolphins’ open defensive coordinator post. The team is currently looking for a new coordinator.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that Chris Shula had an interview on Thursday to become the defensive coordinator for the Dolphins. The 37-year-old is the grandson of Don Shula, the legendary head coach of the Dolphins and Hall of Famer.
For seven seasons, the younger Shula assisted coach the Los Angeles Rams. In 2023, he worked with Sean McVay as the linebackers coach and coordinator for pass rush.
Don Shula’s son and Chris’s father, Dave Shula, was also an NFL head coach for the Cincinnati Bengals from 1992 to 1996. Numerous Shula family members have emulated Don, as Chris’s uncle Mike is presently a senior offensive assistant for the Buffalo Bills.
The NFL’s most successful coach in history is Don Shula. From 1970 until 1995, he was the Dolphins’ coach. During his tenure, the team was undefeated in 1972 and won two Super Bowls.
Vic Fangio’s hiring as defensive coordinator by the Dolphins last summer created quite a stir. Following rumors that the senior coach had problems with the players, they recently broke up with him.
