- The club owner acknowledges the need for improvements and will target the right value for the situation.
- Although not as extensive as in the summer, Coventry is willing to invest in the right deals to turn their season around.
Doug King has hinted that Coventry City are planning to be bold in the January transfer window.
The Sky Blues are struggling to match the same kind of form that earned them a play-off place last season.
Mark Robins’ side are currently 16th in the Championship table, sitting four points adrift of the top six.
While there are still plenty of games left to turn things around, it has been far from plain sailing for Coventry this term.
The January transfer market could offer the club the opportunity to improve Robins’ first team squad, in particular in midfield where there have been a number of issues.
What are Coventry City’s January transfer plans?
Speaking at a BBC CWR fans’ forum, King has claimed that the Sky Blues will be aiming to make moves in the winter window at the turn of the year, although not to the same extent as last summer.
The Coventry owner admitted that the midfield situation is far from ideal, and that the club will look to make improvements when the right opportunity arises.
“January is obviously shorter than the summer window,” said King, via Coventry Live.
“Listen, everyone has speculated about what we paid and what we sold.
“We invested pretty heavily in the summer.
“Obviously I am aware and we are aware of the midfield situation and we’re working.
“If we find the right kind of deal that works for us with the right type of player then we’ll probably be bold and probably get involved.
“But for me, it’s never clear until it’s clear.
“And so you just have to keep going and do your work and if something turns up which you think is the right value for the situation then that will be where we’ll target.
“But it certainly will not be like the summer.”
Where are Coventry City in the Championship table?

Coventry earned an impressive fifth place finish in the table last year, but are struggling to maintain that level of form into this campaign.
A play-off final defeat to Luton Town prevented the club from making a long-awaited return to the top flight.
Coventry can move into the top half of the table this midweek with a win over Rotherham United on Wednesday night, depending on results elsewhere.
Robins’ team travel to take on the Millers on 25 October, as they look to bounce back from last weekend’s 1-0 loss to Bristol City.
The game kicks-off at 7.45pm.
Should Coventry City invest in January?
The January window often proves quite difficult to find the same value as in the summer, with clubs reluctant to sell midway through the campaign.
But there are still good deals to be found, so Coventry will be keen to keep an eye out for any potential improvements that can be made for Robins’ side.
They are suffering a hangover from the disappointment of the play-off final, but the club still has the chance to compete for promotion this campaign.
Investing in January could prove what’s needed to turn things around for Robins’ side, given their current gap to the top sides in the division.
